[VoNR vs ViNR vs VoLTE] Know Everything

 Hello Friends,

The rate at which technology is developing in the 5G era is exponential. The transition of cellular networks from 2G to 5G has been observed. The internet speed increased steadily during this development, and we were also able to improve the calling quality. The introduction of 4G-LTE networks with VoLTE functionality in 2014–15 marked the first significant shift. With the launch of the 5G network, we are already experiencing VoNR on our devices. Let's talk about these.

What is VoLTE?

VoLTE is means Voice Over Long Term Evolution. VoLTE provides voice calling over the LTE/4G mobile network.

Internet browsing was the only use for 4G in the past. Your phone would automatically switch between 2G and 3G when making calls. You could remember a brief pause before the recipient's phone rung. VoLTE has eliminated such wait.

Calls and data are not compatible on 2G or 3G networks and cannot be used concurrently. For instance, any incoming text messages at that very moment will only come after you've ended your phone call if you're on a 2G network. Because calls and data function together on a 4G LTE network, a text message will arrive promptly even when you're on the phone.

Currently in India, Reliance Jio, Airtel and Vodafone-Idea is providing VoLTE services in its 4G and 5G networks.

What is VoNR/ViNR?

VoNR means Voice Over New Radio. Voice over New Radio (VoNR) offers improved audio quality, lower background noise, and higher definition voice over. VoNR guarantees near-real-time communication by enabling decreased latency as well. Additionally, it increases network efficiency by enabling data and voice transmission simultaneously. VoNR makes it possible for voice handovers between 5G and existing network technologies to happen smoothly, giving users a seamless experience.

VoLTE is intended for voice calls over LTE networks, whereas VoNR is intended exclusively for voice calls over 5G networks. Compared to VoLTE, VoNR offers higher network efficiency, reduced latency, and greater speech quality because to its use of 5G infrastructure. Both technologies facilitate voice calls; however, VoNR is customized to take advantage of the special features and improvements provided by 5G networks.

ViNR means Video Over New Radio. Multimedia services and video streaming are enhanced on 5G networks with Video over New Radio (ViNR). By enabling larger resolutions, more detailed images, and buffer-free streaming, it improves the quality of videos. ViNR also helps to reduce latency, which helps to minimise video playing delays. It provides more immersive video conversations, video streaming, and multimedia applications, improving the overall multimedia experience with better video quality and lower latency.

Higher resolutions are supported by Video over New Radio (ViNR) to provide more vivid and detailed video content. By lowering latency, it minimizes delays in streaming videos, making the user experience more responsive and enabling smoother playback. ViNR improves the quality of video conversations, video streaming services, and other multimedia applications for 5G consumers by lowering latency and improving video quality.

Currently in India, Reliance Jio is providing VoNR and ViNR services over its 5G stand alone network.
